Reduction of apparent temperature under urban trees in a hot-humid green area

چکیده
A thermo-hygrometric analysis was carried out at 9, 12 and 16 hrs, under six groups of urban tree species with different levels shading, plus a lawn as control area, on hot humid day November 2018 in Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro. Air temperature relative humidity data were converted into apparent heat indexes (HI). The results obtained subjected to variance and, if significant, regression performed. Shading calculated using five fisheye photos taken each group species, order obtain mean sky view factor (SVF) for location. Values SVF HI evaluation time Pearson’s correlation analysis. There significant difference within the trees three times. maximum (43.91°C) recorded midday. On there positive between times, it higher noon. Increased sunlight exposure, due decreased blockage, causes increase HI.

Air temperature regulation by urban trees and green infrastructure
A well-known effect of urbanisation is the warming of the local climate relative to surrounding rural areas, creating a phenomenon known as the ‘urban heat island’ (UHI). UHI intensity varies across a city and over time, but temperature differences may reach 9 °C in the UK. Factors that contribute to a UHI include the thermal properties, height and spacing of buildings, the production of waste ...
متن کاملPerformance evaluation of green roofs in urban runoff reduction
Urbanism directly affects the hydrological cycle. One of the ways to manage runoffs in urban areas that is considered nowadays is green roof creation. Green roof is mainly created in humid and semi-humid areas, and efficiency of green roofs in arid and semi-arid areas has attracted less attention. In the current study, to evaluate the effect of green roof in arid and semi-arid to reduce runoff,...
متن کاملInfluence of Urban Green Area on Air Temperature of Surrounding Built-Up Area
In this investigation, a numerical model expressing advection and diffusion effects is used to examine air temperature rise in urban areas that are on the leeward side of green areas. The model results are then verified by comparison with measurement results. When the measurement point is at a distance of 30 m or more from a green area, the air temperature of the urban area is not affected by t...
متن کاملComparisons of urban and rural heat stress conditions in a hot–humid tropical city
BACKGROUND In recent years the developing world, much of which is located in the tropical countries, has seen dramatic growth of its urban population associated with serious degradation of environmental quality. Climate change is producing major impacts including increasing temperatures in these countries that are considered to be most vulnerable to the impact of climate change due to inadequat...
متن کاملIngestion of a Cold Temperature/Menthol Beverage Increases Outdoor Exercise Performance in a Hot, Humid Environment
PURPOSE A recent laboratory study demonstrated that the ingestion of a cold/menthol beverage improved exercise performance in a hot and humid environment during 20 km of all-out cycling. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine whether the ingestion of cold water/ice-slurry with menthol would improve performance in hot and humid outdoor conditions. METHODS Ten trained males completed...
